About the Founder
Hello, I’m Leanne, an English-Australian artist, maker, designer, and educator. I work across slow fashion sewing, pattern design, ceramics, painting and textiles. I’m drawn to the tactile joy of working with my hands, shaping materials into pieces that are useful, deeply personal, and infused with story and meaning.
I founded Make Space as a studio where people can step out of the rush and into their inquisitive, creative selves. A place for pressure-free learning, immersive flow, and hands-on making that values process as much as outcome.
Creativity isn’t an exclusive talent, it’s a natural human impulse, a way to communicate, to express emotion and process experience. Life moves fast, and many of us quietly long for a pause: a moment to reflect, be heard, or simply be. Creative practice makes space for calm, focus, and intention.
After years of moving between countries, roles, and creative disciplines, one thread has tied everything together: making always helps me feel present, grounded, and whole.
With Make Space, I’m building a hub for my local community: a welcoming, multicultural studio rooted in thoughtful making, shared discovery, and genuine human connection.

STUDIO ACCESS
Make Space offers regular open studio sessions throughout the week, providing dedicated time to use the studio outside of scheduled workshops. These sessions are designed for independent, self-directed making in a calm, shared creative space.
PREREQUISITE FOR STUDIO ACCESS
Open Studio access is designed for people who have completed at least one taught workshop in the area they wish to work in, such as sewing, ceramics, drawing, or painting. This ensures that participants are familiar with the relevant equipment and machines, know how to operate them safely and correctly, and understand the studio rules, shared practices, and expectations. Studio access does not include teaching or instruction.
WHAT YOU CAN USE
During Open Studio sessions, you may independently use the sewing machines, shared sewing tools and equipment, ironing facilities, and cutting tables. All shared sewing tools must remain in the studio for use by other members. Easels and shared work surfaces are available for drawing and painting. For ceramics, approved users may use the pottery wheels, pottery tools, and designated shelf space for storing ongoing ceramic work.
MATERIALS & FIRING
Participants are expected to bring their own materials for sewing, drawing, and painting, although a small selection of quality materials is available for purchase in the studio.
For ceramics, clay is charged per kilo (pay only for what you use). Basic studio glazes are available, or you may bring your own brush-on glazes. Bisque and glaze firing are charged separately per kilo. Please note that pottery requires two firings: one bisque firing and one glaze firing.
Open Studio sessions are intentionally small to maintain a calm, focused atmosphere. All studio time must be booked in advance, and spaces are limited.
